Beacon Queer and Trans Liberation March

In by Karen Holloway

Event Details

We will gather at Memorial Park and march to Polhill Park for a speakout against homophobic and transphobic harassment in Beacon. More details soon! Join us and invite your friends.
Meet on the side of the park near the Matteawan end of Wilkes Street.
Parents with children and/or others for whom marching may be difficult will gather at Polhill Park at 2 PM and meet the march as it arrives!
Some background on why we are marching: Many Beaconites have been subjected to homophobic harassment for years by a Beacon resident. But the Dutchess County district attorney refuses to prosecute these cases.
Recently, another Beacon resident took the floor at a City Council meeting to propose that Beacon systematically bar trans women and girls from girls’ and women’s sports.
(See 2:08 mark at video of 3-29-21 City Council meeting
Also 4-6-21 City Council meeting at 6:14 mark )
And there has been many other instances of homophobic and transphobic harassment in our town, including the constant theft and removal of rainbow flags from people’s homes. Join us, because we all deserve better! Queer and trans liberation benefits everyone.
